Happy September! Thank you so much to everyone who has come out to support us, especially in the heat! Below, you’ll find out what’s going on at TBR Books this month. [This newsletter is a little late because somebody (Tracy) was busy finishing her MLIS degree in August and forgot to start work on the newsletter.]
Bookstore Anniversary!
It feels like just yesterday when TBR Books opened a temporary location on State Street, but it was actually last September 13th! TBR Books has been around for an ENTIRE YEAR! In celebration, we will have free donuts available in store for customers on Saturday, September 12th (while supplies last)!
Sisters in Service
Welcoming Sisters in Service to TBR Books
We’re excited to welcome Sisters in Service Greater St. Louis, a local nonprofit supporting women veterans through connection, empowerment, and wellness, to TBR Books!
Beginning in August, Sisters in Service will hold Community Hours at TBR Books on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month and every Friday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
During Community Hours, their team will work on nonprofit initiatives while creating a welcoming space for women veterans, community partners, and supporters to connect and learn more about their mission.
Whether you’re curious about their programs, interested in supporting local veterans, or simply want to say hello, we invite you to stop by.
At TBR Books, we love bringing people together and are proud to partner with organizations that strengthen our community. We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Sisters in Service to their new home away from home.
TBR Books is still hosting the donation bin for O’Fallon’s Girl Scout Troop 820‘s Silver Award project, Hygiene from the Heart! The donations will be given to the local food pantry. They are accepting:
Personal Care Items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, nail clippers
Hair & Body Items such as bar soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner
Period Care such as pads, tampons, feminine care products
All donations must be new, unopened, and unused. Drop off your donations at TBR Books, City Hall, or the Public Safety Building.
New Vendor
Merritt
Local artist Merritt has a display in our store! Merritt majored in studio art at Maryville University with a concentration in painting and print-making. Merritt loves texture and says that landscapes are a good feeling, so Merritt’s art combines both. Merritt works primarily with a pallet knife. The paintings are acrylic on cradled wood panels, and they can stand independently or hang on a wall.

Event / Reading Room
Our back room is finally ready for everyone to enjoy! It is a cozy reading room and event space. Are you interesting in hosting your next gathering at TBR Books? Check out our Event Room page for more information!
Book Club Meetings
TBR Books hosts multiple book clubs! They are very casual and FREE to join. Even if you didn’t finish the book, you can still join in! Books for the next month’s meeting are chosen at the end of each meeting. See below for the book clubs’ meeting dates and book selections.
Hispanic Heritage Month originated in 1968 as a week-long celebration but has been celebrated from September 15th to October 15th every year since 1988. Hispanic generally refers to people from or descended from Spanish-speaking Spain and Latin America. Latin America consists of Mexico, Central America, and South America, and parts of the Caribbean where Spanish or Portuguese are spoken.

Literary Celebrations
September has a lot going on, and we didn’t have time to get to it all, so we’ve made a list of some of this month’s literary-related celebrations for you to enjoy below:
This year, the first day of fall is September 22. It’s hard to believe that fall is almost here with late summer temperatures so high, but we are starting to see leaves on the ground, and the sun is setting earlier and earlier. Some people like to celebrate fall by reading cozy books, and others like to ready scary things (some of us like a good mix of both). We have fall reading recommendations for both adults and kids – just click one of the banners below!
Someone (Tracy) did not have time to make a post with recommendations for Labor Day, but you can expect to see a page pop up sometime soon.
