Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health Awareness

May has been Mental Health Awareness Month, which was founded in 1949 by Mental Health America. An estimated 1 in 5 adults in the US lives with mental illness. Mental Health Awareness Month is meant to help destigmatize mental illness as well as bring awareness. It is nothing to be ashamed of.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Have more good days together,” and Mental Health America has action guides and educational material if you’re interested. The Illinois Department of Human Services is also a good resource for those of us in Illinois.

If you are in crisis, please call or text 988, or you can chat with the crisis line at 988lifeline.org/chat.
